I was in the middle of planning my 3rd Consecutive Saint Patrick's Day Party and at the same time hunting for visuals for the hungryhillthebook web site that said something about the memoir. I was ordering custom M&M's for my party and as an attention-getting gimmick for the Hungry Hill press kit mailing and had to order at least two colors of the M & Ms. I was, of course, doing the green, then thought I'd add the white, then thought of the Irish flag and added the orange. Why not an Irish flag for the web site, I asked myself, and the rest is my getting carried away with all things "Irish," reflecting shopping trips to Michael's and the Christmas Tree Stores. To me, there is something friendly and joyful about a shamrock and the memoir my brother, Gerry, suspects may be lacking in the joy area. |
About recovery
In this section, I outline a few of the countless actions I took so that I might find a way to outlive my parents' brief lives. I wanted a different childhood for my children.
Interview
Here I mention my intentions in writing Hungry Hill. I wanted to show the effects of a parent's alcoholism on the children in a family. Also, as a teenager, I show how I failed to grieve my parents' deaths.
The Scrapbook
A few of the O'Malley family photos. I may add more.
Hobbies
tennis, reading, movies, theater, walking, snacking, parties (I give more than I am invited.)
Could easily live without: telemarketing, newspaper inserts, junk mail, cooking, grocery shopping, forms.
Would be a canonized saint if I could sing, dance, diet, and acquired a neat and tidy gene.
